This article is written to express my findings on this seemingly obscure subject.
First of all what is EUR ING registration ? Simple: my accreditation certificate was issued by European Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI) sometime I think in 1981 or thereabouts. The latest one I have is shown below. FEANI has now morphed into ENGINEERS EUROPE. I note that the EUR ING Registry for UK nationals is managed by the Engineering Council, and I was last invoiced for renewal in 2021 - so is not due for renewal until 2026. My current ICE Membership card is also shown - as is a certificate from the ICE to indicate that I joined as an Associate over 50 years ago.
So from the above one concludes as follows:
- Registration on the EUR ING database is held by ENGINEERS EUROPE,
- The Registration activities are handled by an in-country organisation: for the United Kingdom this is the The Engineering Council,
- Registration entitles the registrant to the Title "Eur Ing" in the United Kingdom, which is approved by the Crown's Privy Council.
- The Institution of Civil Engineers uses capitalised lower case for the title viz Eur Ing.
- The correct form of address is as given on the label used by New Civil Engineer magazine.
Noted that on Driving Licences and Passports all data is held in capital letters.
