This records some of the innumerable marmalade's that I have purchased whilst touring around Britain . . . and visiting various Historic Houses, National Trust [Scotland which includes access to the rest of Britain] properties, as well as Historic Scotland through which one can visit English Heritage properties.

Where does one buy these marmalade's . . . . well in the gift shop attached to wherever one is - except of course the village of Helmsley - and one or two other places.
Castles etc:
- Near Innerleithen - Traquair House - with its fabulous garden cafe, and own brewery - strong beers only. The very best marmalade !
- Near Berwick on Tweed - Paxton House [near the Chain Bridge on the north bank of the Tweed]
- The Green Welly Stop at Tyndrum. Three Fruits Marmalade. Wow. Made by Bramble Foods, Market Harborough.
And of course supermarkets - like Morrison's

- The Jacobite cafe at the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre, on the old A9 [now the B8079], PH16 5LG.
Mary Mac's Marmalade using a top secret family recipe ! Large jars - not yer usual ripoff size ! 440 grams of delicious marmalade.
Called in on the 18th July 2025 - and it was indicated that they were thinking about resuming production. Their home made soup was as ever fabulous ! I did get an expensive jar from Lys-Na-Greyne.com. [£5.50 for small jar - 227gms - rather runny . . .]. Called in on 7th October, had more soup and a [very tasty] toasty, and took a home made scone home - fantastic. - Oswestry - Gillhams Three Fuit Maramalade - from Ghillams's Bakery [via Sheriffs Foods !]
- Wilkin & Sons - Tawny Orange [Near Balkenna Tea Shoppe]
- Isabella's Preserve's Seville Orange Marmalade from The Tebay Farm Shop Group [M74, M6 and M5]
- Helmsley - a selection of preserves ... Hunters of Helmsley Their marmalades are spectacular. Their "Yorkshire" marmalade has to be one oif my favorites - it has lemons and red currants added !
Helmsley has a market on a Friday . . . more marmalades & chutneys etc, cotton gilet's, etc etc
Helmsley also has Thomas The Baker, Thomas The Cheese Monger, and Thomas The Butcher. Actually part of a substantial chain of shops ! Their Coarse Cut Seville Orange Marmalade is absolutely delicious
And lastly, don't forget Browns the Department Store. - Helmsley 2024: Hunters' Medieval Mustard - basically Dijon Mustard and Honey [topped up on marmalades as well]; and from The Helbrows - Mango Chutney, and a Seville Orange and Lemon Marmalade.
- Amble Harbour - a selection of cheeses and marmalades etc. Park in the street - it is free.
- Near Shiplake the Loddon Brewery and its Farm Shop. Nice beers and cheeses etc.
- Keep an eye out for Mrs Darlington's Marmalade from Crewe.
- On the A66, a great place to stop is Brough Castle Ice Cream Parlour - Tearoom at Church Brough CA17 4EJ, beside Brough Castle. And their home made scones and jams including Lemon Curd are just remarkable.
- My purchase at the Holmlea Gardens Allotments Open Day on 26th August 2023, and it is absolutely delicious containing grapefruit and lemons as well as oranges of course.
- Dumfries House which was rescued by Prince Charles [The Princes Trust which is now The Kings Foundation] also sells produce from Highgrove House - Highgrove Marmalade. One of the best - thick cut, and firm - absolutely delicious. Price nearly £8 August 2025.
- Someone gave me a jar of Lauries Three Fruit Marmalade. Absolutely delicious. From "Glengower, Eaglesfield, DG11 3LT", which is in the sticks near Lockerbie - moved from Dalbeattie. It was purchased in a Garden Centre near Stranraer.
- Visited Glamis Castle and acquired a jar of their Honey Marmalade. Google's AI says:
- Mackays Ltd, based in Arbroath, Scotland, is the largest producer of jam and marmalade in the country, and is responsible for the marmalade served at Glamis Castle. Mackays is known for its authentic methods, which include hand-stirring and copper bottom pans. Their products are free from artificial colors, flavors, and additives, making them suitable for many diets. You cannot buy the Glamis recipe tho !

- Acquired a jar of their Pink Grapefruit marmalade in Inveraray in June 2025. Firm and delicious.
- On holiday staying at Banchory, had a late lunch at Milton of Crathes - and in the farm shop was "St Clements Marmalade" from Mearns Marmalades AB30 1EZ - which is in Fettercairn - home of a delicious single malt whiskey. Sadly production has now ceased . . . Listed at https://gff.co.uk/
- Another great manufactory of marmalades is https://mintersfinefoods.co.uk/product-category/marmalade/ and one stockist is a butcher in Ayr. The Ginger Marmalade is delicious. Its 3% stem ginger. Another one is their Lemon & Honey [7%]. Delicious.
- Down at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust site at CaerlaverockWildfowl and Wetlands Trust site at Caerlaverock, a placed well worth visiting, I bought some Galloway Lodge Seville Orange Marmalade. 100% delicious. It can also be found at the Boathouse at Glencaple which is a great place for lunch or tea.
- At Bolton Abbey [the villlage nowhere near Bolton] in the tourist shop,
- Lemon & Lime marmalade made by Raydale Preserves.
- Stokes Seville Orange Marmalade.
- The Kintyre Peninsula - June 2025. Away for a week and acquired six jars of Marmalade:
- Mackays Orange Marmalade with Champagne: how delicious - and the flavour ! [But goes a bit sloppy for last bit]
- Sarah Grays hand made Whisky [2%] Marmalade. Bought in Inveraray but made in Cupar in Fife. [40% of 2% => 0.08% Alcohol]
Their Orange Marmalade is best described as a "delicious firm jelly" with some orange slices. - Diverse Preserves of Kilmichael Glassary and bought in Inveraray. More large slices of orange than any ther marmalade. Wow.
- Scottish Marmalade with Heather Honey from Heather Hills Farm. A well marketed brand.
- Thursday Cottage Marmalade, from the Trewlands Farm in Tiptree, Essex. NOT to be confused with Tiptree [The Wilkin Family].
- To Wales for a wedding on September 18th 2025, and on the way home a couple of nights in Beaumaris, and in the Castle Shop:
- Radnor Preserves' Hand-cut Welsh Whiskey Marmalade. Firm and very tasty.
- Goetre Farm Prerserves' Seville Orange Marmalade. They also make Red Onion Marmalade [Marmaled Wniwn Coch] - which is better classified as Red Onion Chutney [Siytni Nionyn Coch] and goes well with a slice of gammon.
- The Lake District in March 2026:
- Muncaster Castle has a fine selection including English Breakfast and Whisky Marmalades packed by Farrah's.
- Sizergh Castle sells a National Trust Tangy & Intense Seville Orange and Whisky Marmalade made in the East of England [Tiptree ???]
- From Dalemain House, home of the Marmalade Awards, three Dalemain branded jars - George's Marmalade, Beatrice's Marmalade, and Christmas Marmalade - and a jar of the "Double Gold Winner" [Yuzu and Pear] by Hitomi Wakamura of Tokyo marketed by Fortnum & Mason.
- The Borders in May 2026:
- From a bakers in Kirkcudbright, a Jack's Marmalade [viz Tesco's].
- Galloway Lodge Ltd's Whiskey Marmalade using Annandale Distillery's products.
- Drumlanrig Castle's Larchwood Cabin [cafe and shop] sells "Restoration Yard" [at the Dalkeith Estate] products including a Whiskey Marmalade. and a delicious Mango Chutney.
- ...
The other thing I like to check out is the local Honey. And I prefer "set honey" as opposed to the runny stuff.
- In the Borders, The Chain Bridge Honey Farm sells [their own] W S Robson's Tweedside Honey - Fabulous. Also other bees wax products from shoe polish to soap to hand cream. They also sell marmalades from The Oxford Farm Shop & Tea Rooms another local business from Berwick. The ingredients for "Cathies Autumn Marmalade" include Apples, OLranges, Lemons, and Pears. Best described as delicious !
The farm also has an eclectic collection of farm vehicles, construction equipment, & military vehicles as well as a cafe. There is also a large museum of local interest: one item that caught my eye as an Engineer was one of the recently replaced well corroded wrought iron links from the Chain Bridge. - The Dowhill Country Fayre shop off the A77 [just south of the Balkenna Tea Shop south of "Trump" Turnberry] sells a lovely "Ayrshire" honey made by Mr A L Fell of Troon [07825 851550].
Noted that he is Sandra Scullion's cousin in law ! - Morrisons. Prefer their own brand Set Honey . . . add crumpets !
